About halfway between Richmondshire Cricket Club and the Georgian Theatre Royal (the oldest working Theatre in the land) and on the road leading from Richmond out towards the Yorkshire Dales and beyond, there lies a delightful establishment called The Cheese Press.

It was established in 2022 in one of Richmond’s oldest buildings by Amber Lee and Mark Howe and they certainly are passionate about cheese.

Amber says that the best part of her job is “Talking about cheese!” and “working with local suppliers and passing on their passion and enthusiasm to our Customers.”  It’s not just about the cheese though as they have an outstanding selection of beers, wines, spirits, preserves, biscuits and more equally delicious high-quality items.

Amber goes on to say “There are so many benefits of working with local businesses and suppliers.  A large amount of what we stock is produced in Yorkshire and we have a carefully selected range of local cheeses.

“As part of the recent Magic Tenner scheme in Richmond we worked out that we support at least 25 local businesses.  You can’t beat those personal relationships, we’ve had so much support since we opened from local businesses and also that money stays in the local economy so I’d much rather use a local business than a national or global one!  We’re very keen to promote Buy Local as we get closer to Christmas.”

The staff at The Cheese Press are a really friendly bunch and they have all studied at the Academy Of Cheese!  They are always on hand to provide samples and advice on putting together the perfect cheeseboard for any occasion.  Now they’re gearing up for what promises to be a very busy festive period.  There are Wreath Making Workshops being held in the shop on the 6th and the 13th of December and you can beat the rush for Christmas cheese by completing their Christmas Pre-Order Form available online or in the shop.  See you there!
